Because I came of age in the early 2000s, I've always associated setting powder with the makeup flashback I regularly saw on celebrities while scrolling through Oh No They Didn't! on LiveJournal.
While setting powders have evolved since high school, I still find many of them over-mattify my skin or make it look flat. So, since I prefer my makeup to have a dewy finish, I've always stayed far away from powders — even though many makeup artists consider them a non-negotiable last step to set makeup.
However, I admit when I'm wrong, and Saie's Airset Radiance Loose Setting Powder has done exactly that. Even though I've sworn off setting powder, this formula convinced me to give them another chance.
Here's what makes Airset so special: it reduces excess oil on my face, but has a radiant finish that compliments my highlighter and dewy foundation. What's more, the powder is infused with hydrating squalane so it stays smooth and velvety all day. It comes in three flexible shades — I use light, which works well for my fair skin with neutral undertones.

After applying makeup, I gently press a bit of the powder on my T-zone with a flat brush to prevent excess shine. I also like to use the powder on makeup-free skin, adding a bit to areas where I have discoloration, such as my under-eyes and chin.
The packaging also deserves a call out. Aside from makeup flashback, I've also avoided setting powders in the past because they're messy and get everywhere. Airset has a little sifter with holes that allows you to pour a little bit up onto the cap and then close it when not in use.

While the early 2000s have inspired many of the current beauty trends, such as thin eyebrows, one that's not coming back is the heavy, chalky setting powder. Thanks to formulas like Saie's Airset Radiant Loose Setting Powder, we can reduce shine and radiate.
